동방신기 {Dong Bang Shin Ki - the Rising Gods of the East} - 東方神起 {Dong Fang Shen Qi, Tohoshinki} – TVXQ! {Tong Vfang Xien Qi – they’re so damn amazing, they have an exclamation mark in their band name}; Whatever their name is, whatever they are known as to you, they are more than a global sensation – they are our cause to be inspired and work hard.
There is no period after the word “faith” because faith, though it may falter, it never ceases to be. Faith may dwindle to a minute flame, a cinder, but after feeling something ever so moving or witnessing an act that evokes sentiments, it is reignited. Sure, DBSK is now separated, now divided into different units, but there is still that lingering hope of just not yet, of life and rejoice, and of hope. Faith propels us forward.
Ten years, right? That’s a decade. Ten springs, ten summers, ten autumns, ten winters - ten cycles of the four seasons have passed by like a swift breeze. Children have become adults and people have come and gone. A myriad of things can happen in ten years. It’s been a grueling, hard decade filled with tears, heartbreaks, and travesties, but despite all the burdens and sorrow, there were five men - then teenagers - emerged and came together as a group. They brought down barriers that were once thought to be insurmountable, but even after ten years, they’re still standing. So many people thought that the split, the languages, the work schedules, that everything would break them, but after all, their spirit is unbreakable. And yes, they’re not perfect, but you know what? Their flaws make them them – DBSK.
Kim Jaejoong (your hair and laugh drive me crazy), Jung Yunho (your kindness towards everyone and your gentleness are so amazing and I sincerely appreciate your patience and love to/for people), Park Yoochun (your forehead is probably as greasy as the way you speak), Kim Junsu (your impeccable gluteus maximus is divine and your similarity to that of a lost duckling is adorable), and Shim Changmin (you’re so snarky and #toocoolforevenyourself, but hey, maknae, you’re beautiful and you have our support through hard times – and that goes for everyone in DBSK), thank you for all the joyous tidings and blessings you have shared with us for the past decade. Not only are you our idols, but you are also our idols’ idols and we revere and respect all of you so much. DBSK, you are the inspiration to always strive to do our best and embrace our dreams (two years after the five of you debut and you’re already in Japan. Fast forward another two years or so and you’ve set a record at Tokyo Dome).
The five of you are the people true legends talk of.
There is no denial about how difficult the path the five of you are, but no matter what, all of you have all the listeners and the lovers here - we can do this. Through long, hard nights of breakups, through happy days with family and friends… DBSK, you have serenaded us with your music, your beautiful, ethereal voices. The five of you have been the background melodies of our lives, the soundtracks of our days. You’re our melody. One day, when we have children and we hear one of your songs on the radio, we will be whisked back in time and reminisce and indulge in all those fantastical memories of one band that shaped our lives ever so positively, albeit in a small or drastic way. We’ll smile and turn up the volume as we think to ourselves, Yes, that’s DBSK.
Ten years down, a lifetime of happiness to go.
And it all began with a hug.
My feelings are like this, and even if I can only watch I am so thankful, I am very happy.
We love you.
And as always, we’ll keep the faith.
